Teddy Bear Hide and Seek!

The nursery children had fun today. They started the morning by doing a little bit of dancing to wake themselves up, then they went outside to look for some cheeky little teddy bears that we had hidden in the yard.  When the children used brushes to brush away the glittery sand on the tuff tray, there they were, lots of colourful little teddies!   We even had time to make some delicious ‘teddy toast’ with bananas and raisins. What a treat!

We had a fantastic and messy afternoon in year 3 with the children becoming Egyptian embalmers! We followed the steps of the mummification process using a tomato. First the children washed their dead bodies (the tomato!) and then an incision was made for them to remove the insides. We then recorded the pre mummification weight. The children then had lots of fun stuffing their tomatoes with a salt and bicarbonate of soda mixture. The tomatoes were then placed in a container where they were again covered in the salt mixture. The tomatoes will stay in this state for 2 weeks where we will then compare the weight and make further observations. What a fun afternoon, diolch boys and girls!

Spiderman skills!

During our handwriting session, we did lots of activities to help develop our fine and gross motor skills.
Overnight, Spiderman had been into our classroom and put a huge web over our tuff tray. We had to use our skills to carefully remove the spiders using tweezers, without touching the web! We also managed to use our numeracy skills to count how many spiders were hiding!
The spiders had also been busy outside and had left a silky trail. The children managed to follow the trail, mark-making as they went.
Well done Year 1- you all had super ‘spidey’ powers this week!

Super ‘S’

The nursery class had lots of fun learning about their special sound this week. The special sound was ‘s’ so they sprinkled sand to make an s shape. They used the interactive whiteboard and the iPads to practise the correct formation of the letter and they rolled playdough into sausages and snipped them with scissors. They also made some super sandwiches. Lovely!

Year 1: RSPB visit

Year 1 had a great time exploring our outdoor area this week. Sarah from the RSPB came to help us learn all about the creatures that we might find in our school grounds, such as woodlice, beetles, worms and we even found some newts too! Thank you to Sarah for such an informative and enjoyable session, diolch! We are looking forward to completing some more of the RSPB challenges in our outdoor sessions this year too.

We Love Welly Wednesday!

The nursery and reception children thoroughly enjoyed their first Welly Wednesday of the new school year. They listened to the story, ” We’re going on a Bear Hunt!” then they acted out all of the parts. They pretended to go through the swishy, swashy grass,  and squelch, squerch in the mud and then they splash, sploshed through the river. Then they all went outside and had great fun! We even had squash and biscuits with our teddy bears.
