Year 2 completed lots of activities as part of our Anti-Bullying week. We began by watching the Disney Pixar film ‘For the Birds’ and discussed how the characters were behaving. We discussed the exact meaning of bullying. We then designed our own birds for the film, emphasising how it’s ok to be different and how we should respect everybody. We then set up a class kindness tree, to encourage and celebrate acts of kindness. Finally, we read and discussed the story ‘I Won’t Be Made To Feel Bad’, which taught us ways to stand up for ourselves and our friends if we ever witness bullying, and other ways that we can put a stop to bullying.
nursery and Reception have begun their week thinking about friendship! We read ‘Hugless Douglas’ by David Melling, and realised that we can all be good friends!
The session began with the children creating a handprint poster, showing of their ‘Helping Hands’, they made some beautiful heart toast with a friend. There is more to come later today with friendship bracelets, and making a mobile.
We are learning about instructions in Year 1 this term. We followed some oral instructions to create our own Poppy biscuits. We then read, discussed and followed written instructions to make our own medals.
As part of our focus on ‘real life’ superheroes, the Year 1 children have been finding out about Remembrance Day and why some people wear poppies at this time of year. Here we are creating our own poppies…
Super Welsh and ICT skills were shown by the Year 2 children this week. They enjoyed writing in Welsh about different fireworks that they like, and used paint tools online to create some very effective firework pictures.
Look at our amazing superheroes in Year 1! They certainly had a super time on our Superhero Day. Following a suggestion from one of the children, we baked our own superhero themed cupcakes. We took part in a variety of superhero training exercises ad we created lots of superhero craft items too. Don’t the children look fantastic in their costumes!
Today Year 6 were set the challenge to code the theme tune to Star Wars using micro:bits. They can use the coding website at home…why not ask them to show you…I can guarantee you that you will be impressed!
This week the Year 2 children made some delicious chocolate apple treats. As part of their work on instruction texts, the children worked together to sequence the jumbled instructions. They then read and followed the instructions carefully to make their tasty treats.
Year 2 have really enjoyed learning about lines of symmetry. The children then worked outside to apply their knowledge and skills by creating symmetrical butterflies using natural materials. The children could explain how to make their art work symmetrical, looking at position, colour and shape.
