We had some super enthusiastic crafters in the club today who loved making Autumn trees using cotton buds to print. They created some lovely art work! Well done everyone!
Our first Welly Wednesday has caused a bit of a stir! We have been on a Bear Hunt!
The Nursery and Reception Children listened to the story performed by Michael Rosen and joined in….. Then the challenge was set! We needed to complete the morning challenges to become ‘Real Investigators’ ready for the big outdoor hunt next week.
Mrs Griffiths has lost her favourite bear, and needs the help of reception and nursery to find him…. I hope we have luck!
The nursery children have been busy this morning taking part in a range of activities to help develop their speaking and listening skills. They brought a selection of items from home to discuss in ‘Show and Tell’. They played a variety of games, which involved listening carefully and following instructions. They played ‘Copy Me’ with the musical instruments and after all these activities, they still found time to practise writing their names on the light boxes. What a busy morning!
This week, we have been busy activating our prior knowledge ready to begin our topic of Superheroes! The children had to use their ‘magnetic powers’ to catch pictures from Spiderman’s web and sort them into groups, based on whether they are linked to our topic or not. The children were also very creative and drew pictures of different superheroes that they know and ones they would like to be. We also began to explore some of the resources we have in class. A super first full week in Year 1 and we are all looking forward to really getting stuck in to our topic next week…
This term Year 6 are focusing on planning, performing and evaluating dance. The first lesson was eventful and lots of fun!
For Design and Technology this term the children have been busy creating Poison Dart Frog beanbags! They have all thoroughly enjoyed this project from start to finish! They designed their frogs, wrote detailed instructions about how they were going to make them, made them and then evaluated them. I have been amazed at the children’s sewing skills and the care and attention to detail they all had when making them. Ardderchog boys and girls!
A massive congratulations to all the children involved in our ESafety Factor project show before Easter. We can now reveal that we have won the UK Community Education Award for Internet Security!! The children beat off 344 other schools across the UK. Yesterday, the Leader of Learning from ERW came to present the certificate and glass trophy to them! This is a fantastic achievement and they should be extremely proud!
We read the story ‘Hooray for Fish’, looking at the different types of fish…different colours, shapes and sizes. We then thought about how we are all different and how our similarities and differences should be celebrated….we realised that the world would be a very boring place if we were all the same! Here we are creating our own fish designs….every single one unique, different and special!
We recently read the story ‘The Singing Mermaid’ in Year 1 and we decided to get creative! The children had the challenge of making their own handprint mermaids or to work as a team to create a new home for the mermaid. The results were fantastic! The home that the children produced was outstanding, with a lot of thought put into the design and features. Da iawn!
The children enjoyed making their own healthy snacks linked to our topic of ‘Under the Sea’. They used a selection of fruit to create sea creatures, such as fish and turtles. We revisited our recent maths lesson linked to finding half of an item and we used several storybooks to give us inspiration for our designs. They loved eating their creations at the end too!
