Today the children in Years 2-6 enjoyed watching a production about bullying, called ‘The B Word’. The children watched attentively and thoroughly enjoyed the show. The show was very informative, and covered lots of issues including cyber bullying. The children were also taught about what bullying means, and when they term ‘bullying’ should be used.
Today the year 2 children had lots of fun further developing their Welsh and physical skills. We began by watching the Welsh film ‘Mynd i’r parc’, during which the children had to listen to characters talking in Welsh about things they like to do in the park in the Autumn. They then listened carefully to the story Hywl yn y Parc yn yr Hydref before spending the afternoon further developing gross motor skills on the play equipment. The children confidently used their questioning and answering skills in Welsh to find out what their friends enjoy doing in the park. Next week the children will use the photographs that they took, and will use their wordprocessing skills, to create a class book based on the story they read.
Gwaith ffantasteg, blwyddyn dau!
Today the year 2 children had a fantastic morning working outside with Sarah from the RSPB doing a Bioblitz. The children pulled on their wellies and went into the nature reserve to hunt for different animals in the environment. We found lots of creatures, including woodlice, worms, land hoppers and even newts! We recorded our results using tallying, developing our numeracy skills. Diolch to Sarah for a fantastic, interesting and fun-filled morning.
On Tuesday, Sammy the Seagull and Mr. Williams from Swansea Council visited school to teach the children about the importance of recycling. The children showed their excellent understanding by answering lots of questions, and even helped Sammy to recycle common household waste. The children also enjoyed listening to a story about a recycling superhero, Michael Recycle. Diolch to Sammy and Mr. Williams for an enjoyable, informative assembly, which helped us on our way to becoming recycling superheroes.
Today, the Year 2 children were set a challenge, as part of their topic ‘Glitter and Glow’. The children were asked to investigate which is he most popular type of tree in Pontlliw Park. We began by learning about different trees, and ways to tell the differences between them. We decided how we could collect our data, and then pulled on our wellies and headed down to Pontlliw Park. The children showed lots of enjoyment and enthusiasm, and worked incredibly well when collecting their data, and used their leaf charts well. We then headed back to school and talked about our findings. We also enjoyed reading about why leaves change colour in the Autumn. The children are now keen to use their ICT skills to create bar charts on Hwb showing their data.
