The nursery children went on a shape hunt today to see what shapes they could find around the school. They were looking for circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. They looked all around the school and even found musical instruments that were the shapes they were looking for. Gwaith da nursery!
The nursery children made their very own miniature beach. They learned about the different states of matter by making jelly to represent the sea. They learned that they can dissolve the jelly into a liquid, then as it sets it turns back into a solid. They then crushed biscuits to represent the sand and even had a little jelly man sunbathing on the top! It tasted delicious too!
The nursery children used their problem solving skills today to build bridges across the construction area. They worked as a team, using planks of wood and blocks to construct bridges that they were able to walk across. They then used their balancing skills to walk across their constructions. Gwaith da nursery! Think we have some future engineers!
As part of our topic, ‘Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside!’ we decided to bring the beach to Pontlliw. The children built sandcastles, made ice cream sundaes, drank ice cool slushies and even paddled. What a fabulous morning!
The nursery children have been having fun in their new outdoor airport. They wrote tickets, checked the flight times and even checked in their luggage. They also had time to play in the water, on the bikes and scooters, and dig in the sand. They even found a giant spider!
The nursery and reception children have been on a bug hunt. They went into the nature area to see what creatures they could find. Don’t worry, they were very gentle with the bugs and put them back where they found them.
Today the nursery children have been very busy learning all about shapes. They cut out shapes and used them to make pictures, used magnetic shapes to build, threaded bolts through circular washers and nuts, and made different shape sandwiches. We even danced to the Mr Maker shape song!
