Learning about the biggest commotion in the ocean…pollution!

Year 1 have been finding out about another commotion in the ocean…pollution! We started by talking about local issues and the recent littering on Gower beaches. The children were shocked to find out that some people don’t take their rubbish home and we decided that we needed to do something about it, therefore we have made posters reminding people to keep our beaches clean, which we plan to share with a local business.
We then read a book called Oil Spill and the children explored clearing up their own oil spills. We realised that it was a tricky job! We re-visited our recent work on empathy and talked about how different people and animals would feel in this situation. It has made us realise how important it is to take care of our surroundings.
