During our Chinese New Year activities the children asked why each year is named after an animal – as we are currently coming to the end of the year of the pig and ready for the new year of the rat. Together we read the Chinese Zodiac Story which tells how the order of the twelve animals was determined. The children thoroughly enjoyed the story and so we decided to carry out our own great race. This afternoon the children were given a straw each to blow the animals across the water – with mixed results!
