Y6 – Why do Penguins Huddle?

Year 6 have been investigating the power of insulating. They have also been looking at the magical skills of our bodies for survival to regulate our body temperature. They have been learning about what the body does when it gets too hot/ too cold.
Today they investigated – does the middle penguin (test tube) stay hotter for longer?
They have been measuring the temperature of the middle, outer and singular penguin over a course of 20 minutes, repeated 3 times to calculate the mean.
They have also been applying their real life experiences of this – insulating homes, a thermos flask, hot water bottle, ovens, freezers, sleeping bags and many more.
It’s vitally important for children to be able to transfer real life experiences from their classroom into their own life – year 6 most certainly exceeded this skill today!
