Fish Exploration Day in Year 1

Dosbarth Fir had a great day yesterday exploring different fish. The day began with a visit from Mr. Keegan who showed us how to prepare and fillet fresh fish. The children had lots of questions and were really enthralled by the whole process.

The children then took part in some observational drawings of different fish, which included a Mackerel, Sea Bass, Rainbow Trout and a King Prawn. They loved getting ‘up close and personal’ and were amazed at the colour and detail on the scales. They also had the opportunity to apply their mathematical skills and enjoyed weighing and measuring each fish – we found out that the Sea Bass was the heaviest weighing 539g!

We spent the afternoon tasting some different sea food, which included Salmon sandwiches, crab sticks, cockles, prawns and laver bread. The children were very adventurous at tasting the different fish, with the Salmon sandwiches being a firm favourite!

Da iawn Dosbarth Fir!
