This week the Year 2 children have enjoyed being instruction investigators. They learned all about bossy verbs and worked brilliantly on a range of activities. Firstly, we looked at bossy verbs in sentences and how they are used to give clear instructions. Then the children completed a concept sort activity, where they had to sort bossy verbs into four categories: directions, craft, cooking and exercise. We then realised that we had a problem in class; Caroline didn’t know how to make squash. So, the children worked in groups to give her clear, precise instructions using a range of bossy verbs and time connectives. Finally, the children enjoyed investigating instructional texts on Get Epic, looking for bossy verbs and other features of the genre. Next week we will be undertaking lots more activities linked to instruction texts… including making a very tasty treat which the children will be bringing home!
