World Empathy Day in Y6 2121

Year 6 have been developing their empathy understanding today, with a focus on inclusion, individuality and overcoming change.
We read the book, The New Girl by Nicola Davies. The book talks about a child who starts a new school. The class do not accept her for who she is at the beginning. However, the child responds by creating something beautiful (Lotus flowers) that transforms other’s attitudes towards her, changing their vision of themselves and their own lives.

We then created our own origami lotus flower ? – discussing the fact that every flower was different, just as we are all different and unique.

We also joined a live session with the artist Rob Biddulph to draw our very own kindness monster.

To end our day, we joined a live session with Michael Morpurgo sharing thoughts on the Importance of developing emotional intelligence and empathy.
