For Welsh week, we have been learning about the Welsh myth ‘Yr Afanc’, which tells of an angry water monster that lived in a lake. When the Afanc got annoyed, it would thrash it’s tail around, which would then cause flooding in the village. The myth tells us what the villagers did to capture and move the Afanc, so that their village would no longer become flooded.
We had a fantastic drama session on Monday, in which the children enjoyed creating freeze frames, making a tableaux, working on movement and gesture, and using and creating sound to act out parts of the myth. The children responded so well, and their enthusiasm and enjoyment was clear to see! We are working hard to further develop Expressive Arts throughout the school, and the children (and Mrs. Cusack!) are looking forward to undertaking more drama sessions this term.
