Year 1- Empathy Day!

What a fun filled and busy day that we have had in Year 1 celebrating Empathy Day!

As Year 1 and Year 3 are part of the Healthy Hero pupil voice group, we started off by hosting a whole school assembly explaining what Empathy is and why it is so important. All of the children spoke so well and we are proud of them all!

We then read a very special book called Molly and the Whale- which teaches us all about what it means to help others and to be empathetic. To make sure we could really put ourselves in the characters shoes, we made special empathy glasses that we could wear during the story that would help us focus our perspective and imagine how the different characters were feeling. We then answered questions all about the story and did a hot seating activity, where we asked the characters questions linked to empathy.

The last point in the Empathy Day motto is to Act! Therefore, in the afternoon, we made special Empathy resolutions which allowed the children to think of lots of different ways that they can ensure they are always kind to others and show empathy.

We then finished the day by practicing Empathy through different Yoga movements and stories!

Wow Year 1- you have worked so hard today!
