The Welsh Curriculum is changing and through newsletters, our blog and our website we will keep you up to date with changes. Schools in Wales are currently preparing for a new curriculum which is currently in a consultation period.
Kirsty Williams the Minister for Education states “The National Mission for Wales is to raise standards, raise the attainment of all children and ensure we have an educational system that is a source of National Pride and public confidence”.
In September 2022 Wales will see a new curriculum . The Curriculum for Wales 2022 seeks to allow for a broadening of learning, supporting settings and schools to be more flexible in their approaches.
At the heart of the new curriculum for Wales 2022 are ‘the 4 Purposes’ which have guided the whole design of the curriculum and set out the aspirations for all children and young people. They are the starting point for all decision on the content and experiences developed as part of the curriculum.
The 4 purposes are that all our children and young people will be….
- Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
- Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work.
- Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.
- Healthy, Confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Schools have been advised to think about their practice in relation to the 4 purposes. You will see that the school is on this learning journey through our prospectus, website, displays and blog. They are also in teacher’s planning and in your children’s learning experiences. Over the next year we will be developing these further through the involvement of pupils and highlighting them through the work that we are doing to prepare for the New Curriculum for Wales 2020.
