The nursery children have been using numicon to learn about one to one correspondence. The activities have helped the children to put value to numbers. They practised their fine motor skills by using tweezers to pick up pom-poms and place them into the holes on the numicon shapes, counting the pom-poms as they went along. They played a game where they had to pull a numicon shape out of a freely bag and show the corresponding number of fingers on some plastic hands. They used markers to stamp inside the holes in the numicon pieces and searched for numicon in the sand. They chalked around giant numicon pieces outside in the yard and then had to count as they jumped on the circles they had chalked. They even made numicon monsters using playdough and googly eyes. Da iawn nursery! Gwaith da!
