This week as part of ‘Welsh Week’, in year two we have been completing activities based on the Welsh myth ‘Yr Afanc’. The Afanc is a mythical creature, and we started the week with a drama session in which the children took on the roles of various characters from the story. We used facial expressions, our bodies, sounds and movement to learn about the myth. We enjoyed watching the film ‘The Girl Who Wouldn’t Give Up’, which is based on the Afanc myth. We discussed the 3Cs and 3Ss used to make the film, and then made posters encouraging people to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, as the film taught us about water pollution linked to rubbish. We also enjoyed creating watercolour paintings based on the myth and the children created some very scary Afanc images! The children also worked very hard to write instructions for how to catch Yr Afanc. What a busy, fun-filled week we have had!
